Warangal: Congress visits drawing board for Lok Sabha polls
Warangal: Despite its dismal show in the recent Assembly elections, the Congress is getting ready to contest the upcoming Parliament elections.
Party candidate Dommati Sambaiah is on the job meeting leaders in the constituencies and asking them to support him. On Saturday, Mr Sambaiah met Jangaon DCC president Janga Raghava Reddy and discussed the campaign strategy for Palakurthy which is the constituency of panchayat raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao.
Mr Sambaiah also met allies-Communist Party of India (CPI), Warangal district secretary Mekala Ravi and former MLA Potharaju Saraiah, and sought their support. CPI leaders said that the party leadership would take a call about supporting other parties in the constituencies they are not contesting. Based on those instructions they would take further steps. Mr Ravi said that the party was working to the defeat the TRS and the BJP in the elections.
Barring the Bhupalpally Assembly segment, which was bagged by the Congress, the other six segments of the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency - Warangal East, West, Parkal, Wardhannapet, Station Ghanpur and Palakurthi - are held by the TRS. The 2015 by poll was won by the TRS with a record margin of nearly 4.5 lakh votes and the party currently appears to be in a comfortable position.
However, Mr Sambaiah expressed confidence that the Congress has a better chance of winning Warangal. "We will chalk out our campaign strategy after discussing with the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy and other senior leaders. The leaders have responded positively to my calls," he said.
