Visakhapatnam: As many as 500 people including youngsters, women and mandal level officers participated in a 2K Run organised by World Vision India in association with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project at Gantyada of Vizianagaram district on Saturday morning as a part of closure event to the Poshan Pakhwada campaign.

Poshan Pakhwada was celebrated during March 8-22. World Vision India along with ICDS department has coordinated awareness activities and community based events at various schools in Gantyada, which was adopted by the NGO. The 2K Run was organised to bring awareness on child health and right nutrition for the mothers in rural areas.

With the theme of ‘Arogyakaramaina Jeevithaniki Modati Veyyi Rojulu’ - the event was aimed to throw light on the importance of first 1,000 days after birth as this is the crucial time for the child's cognitive and physical development.

On the occasion, World Vision manager Pattapu Syam Babu stated that the right nutrition for the mother and child during the first 1,000 days time has a profound impact on the child's growth. It can reduce the disease risk, as well as protect the mother's health.

He said, “Our mission is to reduce the under-nutrition among children. Hence, we need everyone’s support to make this happen. Gatyada should become a malnutrition-free mandal, where all the mothers practise healthy hygiene behaviour and know the importance of first 1,000 days of a child.”
