Nizamabad: 14 Telangana state youths stranded in Iraq seek mea, CM help

Nizamabad: As many as 14 youths from Telangana state have been stranded in Iraq.

They have lost their jobs and are struggling hard to return home.

The victims have sent a video clip to the Union minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj and Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday, pleading for help.

The victims belong to Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Sircilla, Siddipet and Jagitial districts.

They said that they had gone to Iraq in search of livelihood, last April. Basra based Al Masaraia company in Iraq had provided them employment and had paid their salaries till October, 2018. Now, the company management is allegedly refusing to pay the salaries for the last five months, they said.

The victims said that the kin of the company management had threatened them with weapons, when they asked for their dues.

Further, there was no proper accommodation or food for them for the last few days, they lamented. “With huge debts trailing us, we had reached Iraq for employment, hoping to improve the situation back home with our salaries, but the situation is worse than before,” said a victim.

The Centre and the TS government should take the initiative for their safe return home, they urged.
