Dental surgeon makes it to Limca Book
Thrissur: Artist Dr Jiji S. Deepak has entered the Limca Book of Records for making the largest quilling art work.
Jiji, one of the few in Kerala who do paper quilling paintings, made the attempt at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan office complex at Vadakkechira here on April 28, 2018 on the World Earth Day.
The artist took 45 hours and 10 minutes over nine days to come up with the record-breaking art work.
The officials of Limca Book of Records handed over the certificate to her after verifying her attempt.
The two-day show had displayed the biggest quilling art work on a canvas which is 22ft wide and 12ft high.
Jiji, a dental surgeon, said she focused on themes of nature. The mega art work was conceptualised on the issues of climatic change, rising temperatures and the need to plant trees and protect the green cover.
In 2016, the artist had set a Universal Record Forum record for creating the most paintings on paper quilling art. She also has India Books of Record in her kitty for creating 101 quilling works.
Jiji says that the paper used for works are purchased online from across the country and abroad. These papers are deftly cut and rolled into different shapes for quilling paintings which is popular in Europe.
