Crocodile strays into house, let back into Kollidam river

One such crocodile was spotted in the backyard of the house of one Mahalakshmi on Saturday.

THANJAVUR: A crocodile which strayed in to the backyard of a house at Anaikarai near Kumbakonam was caught by forest and fire services personnel and let back into Kollidam river on Saturday.

According to officials, crocodiles which sustain themselves in stagnant water in Kollidam river on either side of the banks during summer, stray into villages nearby to prey upon other species.

One such crocodile was spotted in the backyard of the house of one Mahalakshmi on Saturday.

She and her neighbours informed the forest and fire and rescue services personnel.

They promptly responded to the woman's call and caught the eight-ft reptile and later let into the Kollidam river.
