Central varsity communalising edu sector: CPM

He said going by the guidelines, research would not be allowed in subjects that have been prepared by the students.

THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday accused Central University of Kerala in Kasargod of communalising the education sector.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the guidelines issued by the university for research activities hinted at the attempts being made by RSS to saffronise the education sector. The topic for research will be decided by the institution.

"It's been years since RSS started its efforts to communalise the education sector. The latest example is the guidelines issued by Central University of Kerala in connection with research activities," he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the guidlines specified that only those subjects which have been decided on priority basis by the university would be permitted for research. This condition is an onslaught on the academic freedom.

Moreover, this is also part of the RSS agenda to take complete control of the research activities in premier institutions, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

He said going by the guidelines, research would not be allowed in subjects that have been prepared by the students.

The direction that only subjects decided by the university should be opted for research is completely illogical. The guidelines have raised serious apprehensions among the students. Many fear that from now on they would not be able to pursue research in familiar subjects.

"The decision will have serious consequences in the education sector. It will usurp academic freedom," Mr. Balakrishnansaid and called upon all democratic forces to come together against this decision.
