Visakhapatnam: Citizen Service Centre to be ready by April

GVSCCL plans to complete all works soon.

Visakhapatnam: As a part of the recently launched City Operations Centre (COC), there is a team under the Citizen Service Centre to receive the grievances from the public. A denizen can just push the button at smart pole to complain and the concerned departments would take action immediately. Though it is called as Integrated Command and Communication Centre in other cities of the state, the GVMC has named as COC. As the entire peripheral infrastructure is ready, the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation (GVSCCL) plans to complete the pending works by April 30.

Each smart pole has several components such as surveillance camera, environmental sensor and public announcement system. Out of the 50 smart poles planned across the city, 10 poles are already functional, another 25 have been installed and the rest will be done by March-end, said GVSCCL manager G. Anand Rao. The second Command and Control Centre at Police Commissionerate with a capacity of 18 personnel will be operational by the end of March. In co-ordination with the GVMC and traffic police, the GVSCCL is streamlining all the components of COC for generating revenue through variable message boards (VMB). Around 10 VMBs have been installed at key locations of the city to disseminate information.

Similarly, there will be display boards in 100 city buses under smart public transport system. Almost 70 buses have been finished and the remaining buses will be ready within this week itself. GVSCCL, the joint venture of government of Andhra Pradesh and GVMC, has already hired 16-20 persons for COC that has a capacity for 30 members. The training and tech support will be provided by the consortium of Fluentgrid and L&T. With a budget of '140 crore, the centre has been developed for centralised monitoring.

When asked about the implementation of the real-time smart components, GVMC commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said, “The infrastructure has been put in place now we have to move ahead to the operations stage. The centre is still under the development stage. It will be operational shortly.”
