Karnataka: VS Ugrappa slams TV channel
Bengaluru: A day after several members of the Legislative Council demanded action, including a legislation to regulate television channels, ruling party legislator V.S. Ugrappa on Thursday moved a breach of privilege motion against a private Kannada television channel for demeaning the status of members of both Houses of legislature.
Soon after question hour, he read out a two-page letter addressed to Chairman of the Legislative Council, seeking permission to move a breach of privilege motion against the television channel for instigating legislators against the government headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Legislators were portrayed in bad taste by some media houses and therefore they ought to be regulated or action initiated against them. Through such portrayal, these media houses have not only insulted elected representatives but the state legislature as well. "Some media persons think that they are above the law and function according to their whims and fancies," he said and requested the Chairman to summon the owner/s of the channel, reporters and the anchor of the show, seek their explanation and initiate action against them.
