Explain land allotment to Telugu Desam: Hyderabad High Court

Justice Ramachandra Rao, Government counsel sought a week's time to reply to the plea.

Hyderabad: Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday granted a week’s time to the AP government to respond on two petitions challenging its decision to give one acre of land in Nagarajupalli village in Kadapa district to the ruling Telugu Desam.

The judge was dealing with petitions filed separately by Kadapa mayor K. Suresh Babu and corporator M. Ramalakshmana Reddy, that sought a court order declaring the action of the authorities as “unconstitutional”.

The petitioners told the court that the present market value of the land was Rs 20,000 per square yard, but the government gave it to TD at a nominal rate of Rs 200 per square yard.

The petitioners prayed before the court to declare that the land cannot be alienated or leased out to the TD or its associate bodies. Though the land belonged to the local civic body, the government has alienated it without the consent of the civic body, they said. When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Ramachandra Rao, government counsel sought a week’s time to reply to the plea.
