Thiruvananthapuram corporation budget passed

However, mayor V. K. Prasanth blatantly denied leading to the 'anticipated' walkout saving the face of both.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After high drama and a theatrical walkout by the UDF councillors, the city corporation passed its Budget 2019-20 on Saturday.

The two-day discussions got turbulent several times with the opposition BJP and Congress raising allegations against the implementation of the much-trumpeted Life project building houses for the homeless.

With the UDF corporators staging a walk out, it was a cakewalk for the minority ruling front to pass the budget. Minutes before the reply speech by the finance committee chair and deputy mayor Rakhi Ravikumar post-budget discussions, the UDF councillors turned the session stormy by alleging that the civic body neglected three coastal wards in the Life scheme.

They ripped the copies of the budget and alleged that the ruling front failed to announce a special package for the fishing community and demanded a discussion on it. However, mayor V. K. Prasanth blatantly denied leading to the 'anticipated' walkout saving the face of both.
