Southern states top cops discuss LS poll precautions

Ooty: Top police officials from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry congregated here in the hills to hold discussion on inter-state co-ordination during the ensuring Lok Sabha elections and to evolve mechanisms and strategies to tackle the threat from left wing extremism and related challenges.

The otherwise serene Tamizhagam guest house here wore a festive look
as the top cops from three states and union territory drove there on Saturday morning to hold the meet, a rare of its kind to be held in the hills here.

Apart from the police officers, that includes DGP’s, ADGP’s, IG’s, DIG’s and SP’s, the top officials from Prohibition and Excise department of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry too took part in the meet.

T.K.Rajendran, the DGP of Tamil Nadu, Loknath Behra, the DGP of Kerala, Sundari Nanda, IPS., the DGP of Puducherry and other senior police officers of all three states and Puducherry participated in the meeting along with the Commissioners of Excise and Prohibition of the respective states.

The common issues involved in the smooth conduct of the Lok Saba election - 2019 including the movement of contrabands across the states borders, issues of coordination among the neighbouring districts, pending NBW's among others were discussed. It has been decided to strengthen the check posts, intensify patrols to prevent smuggling of liquor, initiate special drive to execute the pending NBWs and to keep a tight vigil on the movement of illegal arms and explosives, the movement of anti national elements. It has also been decided to take up necessary preparation to provide necessary logistics for the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF).

Sources said that the meet also focused on evolving new strategies to effectively control the Maoist threat along the jungle fringes in the tri-state borders.
