KSDP to produce 158 types of medicines

The KSDP has produced medicines worth Rs 70 crore this fiscal and set a target of producing medicines worth Rs 150 crore.

ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KSDP) here is set to produce at least 158 types of medicines.

The company has achieved the target following the installation of non-beta lactam plant which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday.

Mr C.B. Chandrababu, chairman, KSDP, said that the new plant could produce 250-crore tablets, five-crore capsules, one-crore syrup and 1.5-crore ORS packets in a year. The Rs 32-crore plant became a reality as a result of fund allocation in the 2017-18 budget.

The KSDP has produced medicines worth Rs 70 crore this fiscal and set a target of producing medicines worth Rs 150 crore in the next fiscal. It will give 90 percent reduction in the price of medicines for the patients needing organ transplantation. The state government has a list of 7, 000 such patients. If they come with the documents, the KSDP will provide them medicines directly. It sells medicines to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and also to Jan Aushadhi, Karunya and ESI hospitals, Mr Chandrababu said.

Industries Minister E. P. Jayarajan will preside over the function. Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will flag off the construction of the new injectables factory on the occasion. PWD Minister G. Sudhakaran, Food and Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will also attend the function.
