Taking in K M Mani will be a self goaI: Kanam Rajendran

However Mr Mani who spoke at the seminar did not hint at any issues pointed out by Kanam.

Thrissur: While the top leadership of the CPM is brooding over the induction of Kerala Congress (M) led by K.M. Mani to the LDF, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has categorically said that the Left front roping in Mani, who is tainted with scam allegations, will be a self-goal. Speaking at the seminar 'Kerala Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow' held here on Fridayevening, organized as part of the 22nd CPM state committee being held in Thrissur, Kanam said that there was no rationale behind the idea that LDF could be strengthened through short cuts. The need of the hour was a strong stand against corruption, he said.

The CPI leader indicated that the only reason why the LDF achieved increased vote share compared to some other parties during the by-elections in Malappuram and Vengara was because of its stand against corruption and the confidence the front instilled in minority communities. "So, for small political gains, discussing a directly opposite political policy is not good for the front," he observed. Hence, in the existing situation, LDF could be a strong alternative against the neo-liberal forces and the communal agenda of the RSS-BJP combine, he said.

"To fight against RSS and BJP which is strongly working against the Leftists, there is a need for strong public support and movement," he noted. However Mr Mani who spoke at the seminar did not hint at any issues pointed out by Kanam. He said that more emphasis was needed to improve the agriculture field which was presently in a bad shape.
