RS MP Subbarami Reddy hints at retirement, kin won't enter politics
Visakhapatnam: Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy on Thursday hinted at retirement from active politics after his present term to the House of Elders ends. Mr Reddy also said that since no other member of his family was interested in politics, he had no political heir.
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Reddy said: “As long as I am in politics, I will continue to devote my energies to the development of Vizag region and the people of Vizag.”
Carrying on with the MP’s unstinted support to the arts, the TSR Lalithakala Parishath will be conducting Mahakumbabhishekam at RK Beach on February 24 marking Mahasivaratri. A huge Siva Lingam has been made with one crore small Siva Lingams for the Mahakumbabhishekam, said Mr Reddy.
The Abhishekam will begin at 9 am on Friday and as many as 150 artistes are set to participate in the cultural programmes that are to be conducted all through the day and into the night.
“I have been conducting the Mahasivaratri celebrations in a grand manner in Vizag over the past two decades. My grandsons, Rajeev and Anirudh, will continue the tradition for Vizagites,” the MP said.
Mr Reddy said that well-known actor Suman, who had played the roles of Lord Venkateshwara, Lord Rama and Lord Siva in Telugu movies, will be honoured by the TSR Lalithakala Parishath with the title of “Adhyathmika Nata Praveena” during the Mahasivaratri celebrations. Some local talent too will be honoured by Mr Reddy with the TSR Siva Sakthi Awards.
A few Tollywood artistes and political personalities will participate in the festival.
“Soon, Telugu cinema will witness Chiranjeevi and his brother Pawan Kalyan onscreen. The film will be directed by Trivikram Srinivas and bankrolled by me. We are yet to decide on the theme of the movie and will finalise it in a couple of months,” Mr Reddy said.
