Hyderabad: Four Amazon staffers arrested
Hyderabad: Five persons, including three employees and two courier agency staffers, who stole 36 laptops worth Rs 18.68 lakh from the Amazon warehouse in Kothur village were arrested on Thursday. The police also seized 33 laptops worth Rs 17.09 lakh. Another person who has three laptops is still at large.
The suspects are R. Mahesh, N. Pandu, Chandrakanth and N. Krishna, all warehouse staffers and B. Raju and B. Sunil Kumar of Gati courier service.
Police said the Amazon employees and courier service staffers formulated a plan to steal laptops from the warehouse. Though the area has 10 CCTV cameras, the suspects identified a part of the warehouse not covered by CCTVs.
“They chose laptops as they were kept in a spot which is not covered by CCTVs,” Shamshabad DCP P.V. Padmaja Reddy said. She said that whenever transport vehicles entered the warehouse to collect goods for delivery, the suspects dumped the goods which they had stolen in the courier vehicle so that the goods went out safely,” the DCP said, adding that they stole 20 HP laptops and 16 Apple Macbooks.
Amazon officials identified the missing stock during the audit on February 15. Chandrakanth and Mahesh admitted they took the laptops and said they would be returned, but they were not returned. On February 19, the warehouse in-charge filed a complaint with Kothur police. Later, the suspect admitted the theft.
Police arrested Mahesh, Pandu, Krishna, Raju and Sunil Kumar and recovered 33 laptops. The police recovered 20 HP models and 13 Apple Macbooks. Chandrakanth is absconding.
