Puthiya Sakthi to contest Assembly polls

With a promise of providing decent and corruption free government.

Chennai: Social activists and organisation across the state have come together under a banner called “Puthiya Sakthi” to contest the ensuing polls with a promise of providing decent and corruption free government.

The new front, which comprises 51 organisation, will face the electorate with slogans of scam free governance, bribe free administration and liquor free Tamil Nadu, said D. Jagatheeswaran of Lok Satta party. He added that new front would mobilise youngsters who wanted to serve people through politics. “Once politics was considered as a service.

Now it has become like an industry. We wanted to infuse new political culture to reiterate that politics requires service mentality and transparency. Our front will propagate development politics instead of emotional politics,” he said.

“We are planning to contest in all the 234 seats in the state and we will nominate a qualified candidate for all the seats,” he said, adding that they had asked the constituent groups to provide list of seats they wish to contest byMarch 10. “After scrutinising it, we are hopeful of releasing the first list of candidates by March third week,” he noted.

When asked about winning chances of their candidates considering several such failed attempts made by the activists in previous elections, Mr Jagatheeswaran said unlike previous elections, this time around, the plan is to coordinate efforts and to contest all the seats.

To a query on how they rate PMK and People’s Welfare Front projecting themselves as an alternative to Dravidian parties, Siva Elango, president of Satta Panchayat Iyakkam, said that though PMK tried to project itself as an alternative to Dravidian parties, people still considered it as a caste party. “The constituents of PWF are aligning alternatively with AIADMK and DMK. People will not accept them,” he opined.
