More food stalls to be opened on Alandur-Koyambedu stretch
Chennai: As an initiative to earn increased revenue, and providing amenities to passengers, the Alandur to Koyambedu stretch of metro rail will see more food kiosks coming up in the non-paid area of metro rail stations.
The contract for building food and beverage kiosks was awarded in 2015, many of which are tie-ups with food chains like Adyar Anand Bhavan and Madras Coffee House.
The outlets of Café Coffee Day, Tibbs Frankie, and Madras Coffee House are operational at stations at Ekkattuthangal, Koyambedu and Vadapalani, respectively.
Outlets of Adyar Anand Bhavan (A2B) and Frankie are to be operational at many stations. The Frankie outlet at Ekkattuthangal is expected to start functioning from next week.
“The tenders have been given out, and some of them are under construction.
The kiosks will be operational in the unpaid area of the station at the street level, so that it is accessible to commuters as well as public,” said a CMRL official from the Property Development division.
“With A2B coming up at metro stations, even if it is with limited menu, I hope they offer the items at prices lesser than what they sell at their usual outlets,” said a city resident B. Prasad.
The outlets will be open during the operational hours of metro rail. The license for these kiosks will be given for seven years with annual escalation of 20% for three years.
