Manoj murder case: Court raps Jayarajan, CBI
KANNUR: The district sessions court in Thalassery has deferred the verdict on CBI's custody request for CPM district secretary P. Jayarajan to February 29. While considering the case on Tuesday, Judge V.G. Anilkumar asked Mr Jayarajan's lawyer why the leader of a revolutionary party was scared of CBI interrogation in Kathiroor Manoj murder case.
The court also snubbed the CBI for not producing the case diary. "Even after repeated directives, the CBI has not produced the case diary. What is the purpose of pressing for the accused in custody without presenting the case diary," the Judge wondered.
To that, the CBI public prosecutor K. Krishnakumar informed the court that the case diary was produced in the high court and if needed, it would be produced in sessions court also.
He added that Jayarajan has no serious illness, and that his "health issues" were nothing but drama. Meanwhile, Kannur Central Jail superintendent Asokan Arippa submitted the second medical report of Mr Jayarajan.
The report, prepared by a seven-member medical board at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, had recommended the CPM leader to be taken to any of the three referral hospitals for a second opinion.
The jail authorities had decided to shift him to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMIST) in Thiruvananthapuram once MCH officials give an opinion on the preferred mode of travel — road or rail.
