Bengaluru: Top politician behind attack, says Al-Ameen secretary
Bengaluru: A secretary from a prominent minority educational society in the city has alleged that a top politician and his henchmen have given a supari to kill him to usurp control over the society that runs over 200 educational institutions throughout the country.
The Joint Secretary of Al-Ameen Educational Society, Subhan Sharief, 60, was assaulted on the night of New Year’s Eve by three bike-borne miscreants, who were later arrested by the Sampangi Ram Nagar police.
Mr Sharief was heading home in Shivajinagar along with his son Salman Sharief in his car when the attack occurred. “They waylaid our car and attacked us with rods and machetes under the Richmond Road flyover the night before the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Al-Ameen College, which were scheduled for January 1, 2 and 3.
The celebrations did not get affected, though I had to attend them on a wheelchair as delegates and students from across the country were taking part,” Mr Subhan Sharief told Deccan Chronicle.
The police identified the assailants as Ayub Khan, 30, and Saddam, 25, who were picked up and interrogated. “We are still hunting for others who were involved ,” said a senior police officer.
“Though the prime accused is Imtiaz Pasha, and the co-accused is J. Shafiullah, the police have not moved an inch to arrest the two because of their political clout,” said Mr Sharief. Mr Shafiullah was the ex-joint secretary of Al-Ameen Educational Society.
He has connections with a top politician and several builders. Imtiaz Pasha, is Shafiullah's henchman, who had contested the corporation elections from Cubbonpet and was defeated.
“After interrogating the assailants, the police told me that the prime accused had offered supari to one ‘Shanawaz’ to eliminate me,” Mr Sharief said. “I am living in fear every day. The only motive behind the attack is to take over the financial and administrative control of the educational society after I move out of the position. I was elected the joint secretary on May 27 last year and since then I am being targeted,” he added.
