BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government on Thursday issued orders barring teachers of government colleges from taking private classes. Any violation will attract serious disciplinary action, warned higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo. “We have issued an order asking teachers of government colleges not to take private classes. Strong action will be taken if any teacher is found violating the order,” the minister told reporters at an event. He called upon the parents present at the event to inform the authorities if they found any college teacher taking private classes.

In another development, the government decided to introduce spoken English in elementary education. English will be added to the curriculum from Class I. Currently, English is being taught as a subject from Class III.
