Cochin Smart Mission Limited to help corporation in urban housing

CSML MD said that projects worth around Rs 615 crore under the Smart City Mission had been tendered.

KOCHI: The Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) will support the city corporation by providing gap funding for implementing constructions under the Pradhan Manthri Avas Yojana and LIFE Mission. The CSML has budgeted around Rs 100 crore for the housing sector.

Mr A. P. M Mohammed Hanish, managing director of CSML, who addressed a meeting of the city level advisory forum, said that projects worth around '615 crore under the Smart City Mission had been tendered. The meeting was convened to discuss the status of project implementation, challenges in implementation and to finalise the way forward for projects taken up by it.

“The CSML would support the corporation by providing gap funding in implementing constructions under Pradhan Manthri Avas Yojana and LIFE Mission. It will also meet the cost escalation of tower construction in Thuruthy slum improvement under Rajiv Avaz Yojana. The corporation will support the CSML in conducting socio-economic survey in the slums in west Kochi,” said Mr. Hanish.

Major projects under sewerage, market rejuvenation, open spaces, housing and tourism were presented in the meeting.

Vacuum-based technology would be adopted for sewerage network in west Kochi for which the civic body has agreed to identify the land for setting up sewage treatment plants.

For implementing the Ernakulam market and Broadway rejuvenation, a meeting of traders will be called soon. A joint meeting of the corporation, CSML and Greater Cochin Development Authority will be convened to finalise the walkway along DH road to Mangalavanam stretch. Tenders for the multi-level car parking at Kacheripady will be invited by next month.
