Tamil Nadu highway workers protest for Pongal bonus

The workers started on campus protest on Monday night and also started to cook their dinner there.

Coimbatore: The state highway workers staged on-campus protest since Monday night demanding their pending Pongal bonus. A sum of Rs 3,000 was announced as Pongal bonus for highway workers, which is not yet settled by the department.

Meanwhile, on Monday evening around 25 workers from Coimbatore North, South and Annur sub-division gathered at the highways department division office near Tiruchy road.

The workers started on campus protest on Monday night and also started to cook their dinner there. They also spent the entire night on office campus.

The workers withdrew their protest on Tuesday morning after assistant engineers Ramvel and Manivanan pacified them and promised to take further steps to get their festival bonus within a few days.
