BENGALURU: Upholding the safety and security of students and staff as top priority, the Karnataka Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS) has advised private schools in the state to remain closed on January 25, considering the state wide bandh called for to highlight the Mahadayi River water issue. "Such calls for bandh not considering our concern is regretted as this causes inconvenience for Republic Day arrangements too," said Shashikumar D., general secretary of KAMS. With more such bandhs expected down the line, managements are advised to compensate loss of classes by conducting additional classes on regular days or on Saturdays, read the communication sent to all private schools in the state.
CBSE schools to take a call
However, the Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA) has decided to leave the final call on the matter to the discretion of individual schools.
"As a management, we have not decided on anything as of now, but will leave it to schools to decide based on their local conditions and requirements on Thursday," said M. Srinivasan, president of MICSA.
Yet to decide on holiday: DC
The authority in charge of declaring a holiday for education institutions, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner V. Shankar said that a final decision on the matter will be taken on Wednesday after a meeting with senior officers.
BU postpones exams
Bangalore University has postponed all exams scheduled for Thursday. The exams include first year as well as third year BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BBM (DCC/ One time measure), second year MA/ MSc/ MCom (DCC) and postgraduate DBA/ DHRM/ DMM/ DHA (Regular/ DCC).
The revised schedule has been published on the official portal of the varsity (www.bangaloreuniversity.ac.in)
BMTC, KSRTC yet to decide on services
In view of the state bandh on January 25, the transport department is yet to decide whether to run buses that day or not.
A senior BMTC officer said that the buses will continue to ply and operations will be normal. "Depending on the situation, we will decide if we have to take buses off the road. A meeting will be held with all senior officers and managing director of BMTC.
Only after gauging the situation, we will decide on stopping buses. We will assess the situation on that day," he said.
A KSRTC official said, "We have not received any circular yet on the bandh from the department. Depending on the situation, we will decide whether to ply buses on the previous night of the bandh or on that day."
