Ooty: Thanks to the participation of family members of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, a park in his name on Lower Bazaar road here hogged the limelight after many years on Tuesday with Netaji’s 121st birth anniversary celebrated here in the hills.
Senior citizens here know Bose Thidal at Lower Bazaar opposite the town bus stand here. It has hosted many rallies including those of political stalwarts like Kamaraj, Annadurai and MGR. Over the years, the Thidal has lost its shape and in the recent past, the area has been converted into a small roadside park christened Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Park.
On Tuesday, Ms.Madhuri Bose, grand-niece of Netaji, along with her family members and friends, visited the place to pay homage to Netaji on his birth anniversary. They paid floral tributes to the portrait of Netaji. It was attended by many people including J.Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms.Bose said that Tamil Nadu played a significant role in the Independence struggle and recalled Netaji’s rally in Chennai in 1939. She said that she had come from the UK to visit the house at Coonoor where her grandfather Sarat Chandra Bose was kept under house arrest during the freedom struggle.
