CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran bats for secular coalition

About the role of CPI in LDF, he said that the party needs to gain strength along with the other constituents in the front.

Thrissur: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has reiterated that a strong secular bloc was needed at the national level to defeat "fascist" forces. "The main enemy of the secular forces in India is the fascist forces led by Sangh Parivar. It is up to the Communist parties to take the initiative to form a broader coalition of secular parties to confront them," he told delegates at the district conference of his party here on Tuesday.

His views came in the wake the CPM decision not to form a political front by joining hands with Congress party. “Forming a political front based on ideology is different from a poll alliance. Whenever the Communist parties had failed to identify their main enemy, they have suffered setbacks," he said.

"It is the time to take a decision. We can discuss different political strategies particular to different states later, but now, the need is a political alternative.” He said there were no active efforts to strengthen left parties at the national level. About the role of CPI in LDF, he said that the party needs to gain strength along with the other constituents in the front. “But, if there is a plan by anyone to weaken CPI to strengthen LDF, it will not yield any result. All the constituent parties need to gain strength for making the LDF stronger,” he said.
