Hyderabad Witnessed Rise in Road Accidents, 42% of Road Victims Are Pedestrians

Hyderabad: Hyderabad roads continued to remain unsafe for pedestrians during the year. Data showed that 42 per cent of all victims on the roads were pedestrians.

The number of road accidents increased 14.5 per cent in 2023, when compared to 2022.

Hyderabad ‘kotwal’ K. Sreenivasa Reddy said that road safety remained a top priority through 2023, with a target to reduce the fatality rate by 15 per cent compared to the previous year.

He said that 65 accident-prone areas have been identified and a road accident analysis group (RAAG) had been formed to study the causes of road accidents with a view to taking up remedial measures. The city police had been strictly enforcing checks against drunk driving, he said.

Total accidents: 2,312

Fatalities: 287

Casualties: 2,090

Pedestrians dead: 121

Traffic challans: Rs 71.69 crore

The annual crime report for Hyderabad city for 2023 showed an increase in all categories of crime.
