Warrant to Oji Kuppam gang members

They had robbed Rs 3 lakh from a contractor by diverting his attention on September 28.

Bengaluru: Five members of the notorious Oji Kuppam gang were taken on a body warrant from Parappana Agrahara Central prison by the Chandra Layout police to recover Rs 3 lakh that they had robbed by diverting the attention of a contractor in Bhapuji Layout.

The accused, Praveen (27), Ramesh (34), Raju (21), Karthik (29) and Ankaiah, were taken into custody to recover the money. All the five were arrested by the Konanakunte police last month and were remanded to judicial custody.

The police said that the contractor, A.D. Purushotham, a resident of Vijayanagar, had filed a complaint at the Chandra Layout police station that on September 28, he was robbed of '3 lakh that he had withdrawn from Canara Bank. The police had taken Praveen to Oji Kuppam after all the five confessed to their crime. The police said that the gang members were at the bank posing as customers on September 28. When they noticed Purushotham withdrawing large amounts of cash, they followed his scooter. The gang threw some counterfeit notes on the road at Bhapuji Layout and stopped Purushotham to ask him if the notes were his. When he got down to collect the notes, the accused took the money from his scooter and fled from the spot.

Purushotham only later realised that he had lost the money and filed the polic complaint.
