Hyderabad: Deadline for steel bridge extended

The bridge is expected to ease traffic on the busy stretch from Lower Tank Bund to Hindi Mahavidyalaya.

Hyderabad: The civic body has decided to extend the proposed steel bridge from Indira Park to VST to Hindi Mahavidyalaya in Nallakunta in the city. The GHMC has secured approval from the standing committee and tenders will be invited after revising the earlier proposals.

Unlike conventional flyovers, steel bridges will have a cast in-situ built at the site deck slab. The bridge is expected to ease traffic on the busy stretch from Lower Tank Bund to Hindi Mahavidyalaya.

The project will be taken up under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) and crossing major intersections at NTR Stadium, Ashoknagar, RTC crossroads, Baghlingampally and VST (Ramnagar).

The construction of a four-lane bi-directional bridge from the Lord Ganesh temple near RK Math till Baghlingampally junction will be taken up first, while the Ramnagar to Baghlingampally section will be taken up next. It will start near near RTC Kalyana Mandapam and landing at BE Lane. It is likely to pass through the Indian Hume Pipe Company Limited and VST.

As per the earlier proposals, the 2.6-km corridor from Indira Park to VST was to have cost Rs 350 crore, and the 0.84-km section from Ramnagar to Baghlingampally Rs 76 crore. Fresh proposals will be drawn up for the extended bridge.
