Hyderabad: 530 child labourers rescued, educated

In January, Operation Smile was held and in July, Operation Muskan was conducted and 530 children were rescued in Rachakonda.

Hyderabad: In Rachakonda commissionerate, a total of 530 children working in brick kilns, poultry farms and other industries were rescued with more than half of them are form Telangana state.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said, “According to the Central government order to rescue child labourers, the Rachakonda commissionerate launched Operation Smile and Muskan. We have formed eight teams consisting of one sub-inspector, three constables and one woman constable each.”

In January, Operation Smile was held and in July, Operation Muskan was conducted and 530 children were rescued in Rachakonda.

Out of them 283 boys and 104 girls were from Telangana state and 138 boys and five girls from other states like Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

To continue the education of the children whose families migrated from other states, schools were started. One school with 180 students at Pedakonduru village was started and another with 800 students in Ravirala village, Ibrahimpatnam.

“The schools also included children of migrant labourers to continue their education in their mother tongue. The project received international award of IACP USA for Civil and Human Rights,” he said.
