Chennai: Weathermen at Regional Meteorological Centre have forecast heavy rain, which is likely to occur at isolated places over south coastal parts of the state and delta districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai on Sunday.
According to weathermen, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in Chennai with light rain is likely to occur in some areas. Further, maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 24 degree Celsius respectively for two more days.
Addressing the media, Puviyarasan, director area cyclone warning center, said that the northeast rainfall monsoon in Chennai was deficit of 45 per cent, while the entire state witnessed 24 per cent shortage from average rainfall. "The present weather patterns are likely to give rain in delta regions," he said, adding that they were closely monitoring weather changes.
K. Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger, said that after the disappointment of Cyclone ‘Phethai’ when not even a single place in Coastal Tamil Nadu recorded any meaningful rains almost everyone was looking forward to this weekend for some rains. "With the trough of low extending up to 1.5 km above sea level many weather watchers were keenly observing for possible development of this disturbance," he said.
For places to the North of Puducherry like Chennai the chances are less for any major rainfall activity since these places are coming under the influence of the dry Northerlies, the weather blogger noted. Unless any major change in atmospheric conditions happen, northern parts of state will have to be content with some passing spells of showers, he added.
