Telangana: Auction helps civil supplies save Rs 100 crore

Another tender was filed to supply 1.50 lakh MT of fine rice at Rs 3,492 per quintal.

Hyderabad: The civil supplies department has saved over Rs 100 crore to state exchequer by purchasing fine quality rice (sanna biyyam scheme) for students in government hostels from rice millers for lower rates.

Commissioner for civil supplies C.V. Anand said the department saved Rs 107 crores by conducting regular meetings with rice millers and convinced them for supplying rice at lower rates to government welfare hostels, mid-day meal scheme and PDS rice.

He said that with the series of meetings held with the representatives of Telangana Millers Association, the government could save Rs 25 crore on fine rice and Rs 82 crore on PDS rice

As there is a shortage of customised milling rice (CMR) this year for PDS, the department has decided to purchase from the millers an additional quantity of 6 lakh metric tonnes of PDS rice and 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of fine rice for supplying to welfare hostels.

Only three applicants responded for an online tender-called for the purpose and the maximum rate for Grade-A quality quoted was Rs 2,650 per quintal. This tender was filed to supply only 1.06 lakh MTs only. Another tender was filed to supply 1.50 lakh MT of fine rice at Rs 3,492 per quintal.
