Tamil Nadu: IOC does another mock safety drill for underground pipeline

An IOC release said here that the drill was led by. S.S. Chourasia, DGM of IOCL of Trichy.

Pudukkottai: The Indian Oil Corporation limited (IOC), Southern Region Pipelines (SRPL), Tiruchy conducted an offsite mock drill and awareness programme at Ch.409-Km point of its 683-Km long Chennai - Tiruchy - Madurai underground Pipeline (CTMPL) at Nagaram village, in Pudukkottai district on Friday. An IOC release said here that the drill was led by. S.S. Chourasia, DGM of IOCL of Trichy.

Speaking on the occasion, he explained to the villagers about the dos' and don’ts to be followed in the right-of-way through which the pipeline passes. He emphasized that construction of building, big tress, making bore wells etc. shall not be done in the pipeline Right of Way (ROW) as it will hamper the safety of the pipeline. Mr. Chouyrasia also stressed the importance of coordination between the district administration, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department, local village and panchayat administration and IOCL in handling any kind of emergency situation.

A live fire control demonstration was carried out by Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department team of Illupur fire station, under the leadership of Karunanidhi, Station fire officer. Apart from ensuring preparedness of the safety personnel, the more than hour-long drill aimed to create awareness among the villagers about safety measures to be adopted during an emergency in coordination with the local panchayat leaders and fire and rescue wing of Illupur, the release added.
