Tamil Nadu appoints four additional advocate generals

With their appointments, the total number of AAGs in the Madras high court has increased to nine.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday appointed four more additional advocate generals (AAGs) to the high court. By an order dated December 22, the state government has appointed senior advocates P.H.Arvindh Pandian and K.Chellapandian, Special Government Pleader Narmadha Sampath and advocate S.R.Rajagopal as additional advocate-generals. With their appointments, the total number of AAGs in the Madras high court has increased to nine. The services of the existing AAGs, V.S.Sethuraman, C.Manishankar, S.T.S.-Moorthy, Subramonium Prasad and B.Pugal-endhi has been retained.

Of the four new appointees, Challapandian would serve as AAG before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court. Arvindh Pandian is the son of former TN assembly speaker P.H.Pandian. He had already served as AAG till 2016. Narmadha Sampath is currently special government pleader for the state in tax matters. Subramonium Prasad’s name was recently cleared by the Supreme Court collegium to be elevated as a judge of the Madras high court.
