Residents seek solution to closed roads in Secunderabad
HYDERABAD: Residents inconvenienced by closure of roads in Secunderabad Cantonment area have written an open letter to GHMC commissioner B.
Janardhan Reddy to know from him whether problems faced by north-eastern colonies figured in the discussions on alternative roads held with Army authorities on Thursday.
The residents complained that LMA (local military authority) had closed eight roads in Golf Course area because of which connectivity of people living in areas such as Yapral, Sainikpuri, Neredmet, Balaji Nagar and Kowkoor with Rajiv Rahadari was impeded. This was causing a lot of difficulties to commuters.
They claimed that proposals for the two alternative roads — Safilguda railway gate to Allahabad gate and RK Puram to Safilguda — were inadequate designs that did not address the travails of local residents.
Ministry of defence (MoD), in a letter in January 2015, had given directions to all Canton-ments that had closed roads in contravention of rules to reopen them im-mediately.
Residents said they wanted to know from the GHMC if it took any steps to get the illegally-closed roads reopened, as Secunderabad Cantonment had allegedly not done anything in this regard so far.
