Subodh Yadav's transfer from KPSC, tweets kick up row

Anti-corruption activists attack government for buckling under pressure.

Bengaluru: He was appointed its secretary reportedly to wipe out corruption in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), but merely six months later Mr Subodh Yadav has been shown the door. Rather than go quietly, the officer tweeted on December 17 : “Already created enough of animosity due to changes bng brought..every one can't be satisfied..all kind of ppl with all kind of vested intrs” and “Thought of doing a lot but couldn't do...anyway.”

The tweets followed news that he had been transferred to the health department and raised a lot of dust particularly as the government had claimed Mr.Yadav had been appointed to bring transparency in the commission marred by allegations of nepotism and corruption especially in the appointment of gazetted probationers. The fact that he was transferred with the interview schedule of the gazetted probationers examination 2014 round the corner, has given room for more suspicion.

Some candidates, who appeared for the examination and were getting ready for the personality test, claimed that immediately after Mr. Yadav's sudden transfer they received calls from agents offering to fix their appointments and posts.

“The gazetted probationers examination is always marred by one or the other controversy. But this time we were expecting transparency due to the presence of Mr. Yadav and demonetisation. But unfortunately the state government has buckled under pressure from vested interests,” said a candidate.

Anti- corruption activist, Ravikrishna Reddy, described Mr. Yadav's sudden transfer as unfortunate. "It is sad that those who were raising their voice against corruption, are now silent over his transfer. Chief Miniser Siddaramaiah had assured a corruption- free government, but his actions do not support his assurance," he regretted.

What next: Some candidates who appeared for the various examinations conducted by the KPSC, claimed that since the day of Mr Yadav's transfer, they had been receiving calls offering to fix appointments to various posts.
