Telangana to bet big on gaming companies

Over 25-30 gaming companies have contributed to make this a one-of-its-kind event: Rajesh Rao.

Hyderabad: Looking to widen the horizon of the state’s gaming industry, IT secretary, Jayesh Ranjan, on Friday said that the state government was in talks with some top universities in the UK for setting up of off-campus sites in the city.

“There is a need to come up with world-class educational institutions in the state to bolster budding gaming enthusiasts. A Centre of Excellence (CoE) for gaming, animation and VFX is in the offing. We plan to make the Indian Game Developer Conference (IGDC) an annual series in the city and hope to provide a rewarding experience for everyone, including gamers, developers and companies,” he said.

Dwelling upon the government’s initiatives to promote gaming industry, Ranjan, delivering the keynote address, said, “The Indian Game Developer Conference has enriched the appeal of Indiajoy-2019. The government has been making efforts to promote the sector. The Image Tower that we plan to construct by the end of 2020, promises to re-define the gaming industry in the country. It will boast excellent infrastructure and a business-friendly environment that would encourage investments.”

Chairman of IGDC, Rajesh Rao said: “Over 25-30 gaming companies have contributed to make this a one-of-its-kind event. The overwhelming support from sponsors and gaming enthusiasts from across the globe has come in as a morale-booster for us.”
