Hyderabad: Will the commercial operations of HMRL start from November 29, a day after it is inaugurated by the Prime Minister? Or will the service start immediately after the inauguration? There is much speculation about this as work is still to be completed at Ameerpet station and also at the street level. For the easy movement of passengers, it is important that pavements, railings and other such facilities be ready and though work is on in full swing, there are still doubts that all will be ready by the 28th. The government and also the Hyderabad Metro Rail had concentrated on the Miyapur-SR Nagar stretch.
As a senior officer explained, “Work on stations from Miyapur to SR Nagar was a priority as this stretch was to become operational earlier. But there were constant delays so manpower was shifted to other places. The finishing touches in terms of painting of the railings, cleaning the area and also other minor works are now being done. These will all be completed in a day or two.” HMR has started with street level work of laying pavements, seating arrangements with stone and marble and also beautification. A senior official of L&T said commercial operations will start immediately. “There is no question of waiting any more. We want to get the inauguration done smoothly, first.”
