House decision must abide by orders on PILs: Madras High Court

As the arguments were not completed on Wednesday, the bench adjourned the case to November 23.

Chennai: The Madras high court said on Wednesday that any major decision taken in the Puducherry Assembly, scheduled to begin on Thursday (November 23) will abide by the orders to be passed on the batch of PILs relating to the nomination of three MLAs and the provisions which enables such nomination.

The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M.Sundar passed the interim order on the PILs including the one from Dhanalakshmi, which questioned the validity of the provisions which enabled Puducherry Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi to nominate V.Saminathan and K.G.Shankar, president and treasurer of the Puducherry BJP unit respectively and S.Selvaganapathy, correspondent of Vivekananda Matriculation School in Lawspet as members of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

As the arguments were not completed on Wednesday, the bench adjourned the case to November 23.

The other PIL was filed by Congress MLA Lakshmi Narayanan. Another petition was filed by the three nominated MLAs.While Lakshmi Narayan sought to stay the operation of the nomination order of the Lt.Governor, the MLAs challenged an order of the Assembly Speaker preventing them from entering the assembly.
