MP’s wife apologises for rape analogy

In the heavy rainfall that happened on Sunday night, the MP’s home was waterlogged.

Kochi: Lawmaker Hibi Eden’s wife Anna Linda Eden on Tuesday sparked a controversy with a Facebook post captioned “Fate is like rape, if you can’t resist it then try to enjoy it.”

She withdrew her post later following sharp criticism the insensitive comments evoked on social media, some even taking her husband to task.

In the heavy rainfall that happened on Sunday night, the MP’s home was waterlogged. Their porch, cars and ground floor were submerged.

Eden, along with the controversial caption, posted two videos, one of her daughter and some belongings being shifted in a rescue boat and another of Eden, who was not in town, eating a bowl of ice cream.

Many said that she tried to trivialise rape under hashtags like #SayNoToRapeJokes.

Following this, she removed the post and issued a clarification expressing regrets.

“I understand that my previous post was being misinterpreted. The post was never intended to abuse the struggles of women who have been through such incidents in their life. As my post has created a misunderstanding, I am expressing my unconditional apologies,” the post read.
