Bengaluru: Sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) rescued nine Nepalese citizens allegedly being trafficked to the Maldives and other countries by a Nepal-based human trafficking gang. The police arrested a member of the gang, Babu Giri (40) from Nepal, and launched a manhunt for the prime accused, Shambhu Giri and R.P. Sharma.
The police received a tipoff that nine Nepalese were put up at Greenleaf International Comfort Lodge in Chikkajala police limits.
The police learnt that Nepal-based agent Babu Giri had brought them to the city promising them jobs in the Maldives and other countries.
“We received a tipoff that the agent was possibly trying to transport the youth on the pretext of getting them jobs and raided the lodge and rescued nine Nepalese citizens. The agent was arrested and is being interrogated," the police said.
Shambhu Giri and R.P. Sharma convinced the victims about lucrative job offers and trafficked them through Babu.
The CCB is further investigating the case and making efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
