High drug users among students: Panel

Commission chairman P Suresh informed a review meeting here that active agents are working outside the school campuses to trap them in drug rackets.

Kannur: There has been an increase in the use of drugs and similar addictive substances among school students, says the State’s Protection of Children’s Right Commission.

The commission chairman P. Suresh informed a review meeting here that active agents are working outside the school campuses to trap them in drug rackets.

“These drugs are being brought to the district mainly from Bangalore and Mangalore. Students from Class 10 and above are also among the primary carriers who later supply it among younger ones in schools, eventually helping them earn money," he said.

"We have also got information some after collecting OP tickets from hospitals buy tablets and medicines that could indirectly work like drugs. Hence the hospital authorities have been directed to keep an eye on such students."

The commission directed all authorities of schools in the district to start school protection groups to identify such students involved in drug rackets and substance abusers.
