Bengaluru: Doctors plan protest over stipend delay
Mangaluru: House surgeons and postgraduate doctors at the Government Wenlock Hospital here on Monday warned of a protest next month against a delay on the part of the state government to release stipend since eight months.
The K-CET house surgeons and postgraduate doctors who secured seats under government quote in KMC have been serving at Wenlock, Lady Goschen Hospitals and Regional Advanced Pediatric Care Center (RAPCC) since March. They staged a protest on Monday demanding immediate release of stipend.
There are 51 house surgeons and 38 post graduate doctors serving since March.
While house surgeons ought to receive Rs 20,000, PG students Rs 30,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 (for the three respectively) every month.
“We serve patients and take care of their health round the clock. But unfortunately we have not been paid anything. If the government does not pay our stipend we will go on an indefinite strike from November,” said one of the protesting doctors. Post-graduate students are facing similar problem in Davangere too.
Meanwhile officials said they have brought this to the notice of the state government and trying to get the money released at the earliest. Hospital Superintendent Rajeshwari Devi told reporters that the deputy commissioner has written to the medical health department on the issue.
