Suryapet Wakf lands encroached
Hyderabad: A prime Wakf property at Suryapet district, measuring about 530 acres, is encroached by the TS government offices and is leased out to private establishments.
The revenue is filling the coffers of the local municipality. The land belonging to Dargah Hazrath Latee-fullah Shah Quadri located at Kodad is a notified Wakf property. About 459 encroachments were identified.
“Several government offices, including the Kodad municipality, district superintendent of police bungalow and a few banks, function here,” said Mr Osman Al Hajri, president of the Deccan Wakf Protection Committee.
Some buildings are constructed by the erstwhile gram panchayath and the Kodad municipality and are leased out to private establishments. State Bank of India functions from here by paying a monthly rent of Rs 80,000.
Another bank also pays the same amount while a few shops cough up smaller amounts. The TS Wakf board has no clear picture about the revenues generated by local municipality by leasing out the buildings.
Mr L. Baloji Naik, commissioner, Kodad municipality, said that no official from the TS Wakf board has approached them to hold talks on the issue. “All the offices and markets were constructed several years ago. A few properties were leased out following due process and the revenue is credited into the account of the municipality,” Mr Naik said. When contacted, Wakf board chairman Moha-mmed Saleem said that they will take suitable action.
