Bank associations term it as non banking job

Entrusting additional work on the shoulders of the existing bank staff will add more woes.

Hyderabad: Bank associations have opposed the decisions of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to hand over enrolment and updating of aadhaar cards to banks.

C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary of the All India Bank Employees’ Association, said that the association brought this issue to the attention of the chief executive of Indian Banks’ Association.

“Entrusting additional work on the shoulders of the existing bank staff will add more woes. Aadhaar enrolment is a non-banking job thrust on bank employees,” he said.

M. S. Kumar, secretary of the Federation of Bank Employees, said “Major banks have already provided space and third party agencies are enrolling new aadhaar details. If we take the responsibility, it will give burden on the staff and the bank.”
