Sudog dog repellent to help bikers in Kochi

It helps stop the approach of unwanted dogs up to 40 feet.

Kochi: At a time when stray dogs continue to hunt our cities, a group of engineering faculty has developed an ultrasonic dog repellent called Sudog to protect bike riders from the stray dogs.

According to its developers it can prevent accidents caused by stray dogs in motor vehicles. Using the latest ultrasonic technology which lasts for one minute, the super dog chaser (Sudog) uses two ways to repel a dog. “The discomforting frequency (20,000Hz-25,000Hz), irritating to dogs but not harmful to humans are produced by Sudog. A super bright LED flashing strobe that temporarily blinds and confuses the dog is also produced by it. It helps stop the approach of unwanted dogs up to 40 feet. It also has a training setting and requires nine volt battery. The device can also be used as a flashlight. It is also useful in the training of dogs,” say the makers.

This can be fitted in public places as well as in houses. Mr. Vishnu V (Ammini College of Engineering, Palakkad), Mrs Merin Antony (KMP College of Engineering, Perumbavoor), Mr Jyothish Krishna P G (NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad) and Mr Jijo Jose (UKF College of Engineering, Kollam), have jointly developed it.

“Our product is the best one among all similar products like dragon ultrasonic dog repeller chase, ultrasonic dazer, bitter apple spray, motion activated sprinklers and solar animal repellers,” they said.

They showcased it at the national level makers workshop organised at FISAT Engineering College, near Angamaly, under the auspices of APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University on Saturday. Nearly 50 teachers from 33 engineering colleges participated in the workshop.
