VHR, Krishnaiah Hold Dharna for Caste Census

Hyderabad: Demanding that the Centre to conduct a nationwide caste census, National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah, a YSRC Rajya Sabha member, and Congress former MP V. Hanumantha Rao and other leaders took part in a dharna in Delhi on Friday.
Krishnaiah said that the BJP-led NDA government was ignoring the 30-year-long protest seeking reservations in legislature for BC community members. A lot of progress would have been made if reservations had been made for the BC community in education, employment, political and social fields at the time of framing the Constitution.
Hanumantha Rao said that the government should formulate special schemes for the development of BC community members and provide social protection and security in the manner of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Reservations should be made for SC, ST, BC community members in appointments to the Supreme Court and High Court, and post matric scholarship and fee reimbursement scheme should be introduced at the Centre for BC community candidates.
