Karnataka Congress Government an agent of Tamil Nadu, alleges BJP

BENGALURU: Criticising the release of water to Tamil Nadu by the State Government even before the Supreme Court gave its verdict, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday alleged that the Congress led State Government was acting as an agent of Tamil Nadu and expressed fears that the decision to release water to Tamil Nadu would leave Bengaluru and Mysuru under severe drinking after problems in coming days.

Taking part in a protest against release of water to Tamil Nadu at Mysore Bank Circle in Bengaluru city, Yeddyurappa, addressing the protesters, asked the State Government to stop release of water to Tamil Nadu and accused the State Government of failing on all fronts. He stated that the State Government had no right to continue in power in the State.

Previous Chief Minister and BJP MLA Basavaraj Bommai termed the Congress led State Government of being ‘irresponsible’ over River Cauvery issue and alleged that that the ruling party has no coordination and accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar ignored the interests of Karnataka while committed to safeguarding the interests of Tamil Nadu.

The State Government failed to bring it to the notice of the Supreme Court on water requirements for Bengaluru city and the dreams of ‘Brand Bengaluru’ envisaged by the Congress led State Government will take a hit with the release of water, said Bommai.

Bommai demanded the State Government to distribute Rs 25,000 per acre for crop losses sustained by the farmers while BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol feared that the people in Cauvery basin would migrate to other parts.

Lok Sabha member P.C. Mohan stated that in coming days residents would have empty pots after water release to Tamil Nadu.
