Visakhapatnam: Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy held a review meeting with the Visakhapatnam Collector, GVMC Commissioner, and other senior officials on Saturday to discuss the comprehensive development of Visakhapatnam.

The chief secretary said that Visakhapatnam is emerging as an important city in the country and that there is a need to design multi-developmental projects to meet its future needs. He also said that the Visakha Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) is extending its jurisdiction to 2,456 square kilometres and that there is a need to plan drinking water projects to fulfil the needs of the people of the three north coastal districts coming under the VMRDA's jurisdiction.

The chief secretary also suggested developing a beach corridor, Signature Tower, and a large convention centre with all the facilities. He said that there is also a need to build a national history museum in the city. He suggested that the officials adopt the Gujarat model for land acquisition for these projects.

Among other things, he also suggested developing a science city atop Kailasagiri Hills, a water sports park at Mudasarlova, and all the parks located within the city.
The chief secretary asked the officials to speedup the Metro Rail project as the city is fast widening covering huge geographical areas.

Managing Director of Metro Rail U.J. Rao told the chief secretary that four corridors are being planned for the rapid transport system. The corridors would be from Steel Plant to Kommadi junction, from Gurudwara junction to Old Post Office, from Thatichetlapalem to China Waltair, and from Kommadi to Bhogapuram.
