Adivasis stage dharna at Jantar Mantar demanding removal of Lambadas from ST list

ADILABAD: A large number of Adivasi of erstwhile Adilabad, Khammam, and Warangal districts of Telangana staged a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on Friday urging the central government to remove the Lambadas from the STs list.

Adivais alleged that Lambadas gained entry into the STs list through fraudulent means and continued illegally there to corner all the education and employment opportunities, and reservations meant for tribals.

The Adivasis took out a massive rally along with a display of their cultural troupes through the capital’s streets.

Adivasis said they would organise a public meeting in Ramleela Maidan that would see the presence of two lakh Adivasis on Dec 9 if the central government failed to concede their demands.

The Adivasis also demanded that the central government protect the Adivasis rights in the 5th schedule in Telangana and sought the effective implementation of 1/70, PESA, and the restoration of GO-3.

The dharna was staged under the banner of Adivasi organisations like the Aadhar Society and AIWCA.

Addressing them, Adilabad BJP MP Soyam Bapurao extended his support to the Adivasi’s demands and promised to bring the issue to the notice of Home Minister Amit Shah and the Prime Minister.

He said the Adivasis should fight like the Telangana agitation till they achieve their demands.

Aadhar society leaders Chunchu Ramakrishna, Kalthi Veeramallu and Adivasi leaders Sidam Bheemrao and Mesram Durgu, university professors, MPTC and ZPTCs, leaders of Rain centres, Adivasi village headmen, government employees and other leaders were present.
