Thiruvananthapuram: More arrests likely in PSC exam fraud
Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch probing the Public Services Commission (PSC) exam cheating has gathered crucial cyber evidence that can lead to more arrests.
According to sources, it was the same person who leaked the question papers to the culprits who helped them in finding correct answers.
The accused did not give the names of those who helped them. However, the investigators feel that the cyber evidence which established that those who helped the accused stayed near the Hindi department and found the answers using Google Talk will help them identify the person.
Though the police failed to recover the smartwatch and mobile phones used, it feels that evidence can be fetched by identifying the calls and SMSs sent and received a few days before and on the day and time of the exams.
The lead was the finding that there was an unprecedented number of text messages to the mobile numbers of the accused on the day of the Civil Police officer’s test.
However, police could not yet recover these text messages to prove that the messages were used to leak questions and answers. The cybercops were reportedly trying hard to recover these messages.
While reports suggested that the person who leaked the question paper was a classmate of the accused Pranav, the CB has not confirmed it.
The only clue was the statement of Gok-ul, the policeman arrested in the case, that the person who leaked the question paper might be Pranav's classmate.
One of the options before the investigating officers was to go for a lie detection test on the accused. The CB has submitted a plea seeking clearance for this before the chief judicial magistrate court.
